My indoor oasis

200+ house plants in my bedroom

In 2021, amidst the chaos of a global pandemic and the uncertainty of my visa status, I stumbled upon a British YouTuber named Kaylee Ellen and her videos showcasing rare plants. Little did I know, this encounter would mark the beginning of a transformative journey.

At that time, life had thrown me into a whirlwind of stress and sadness. Nearly facing deportation and grappling with the looming uncertainty of my future in New Zealand, I felt like I was navigating a maze with no clear path forward. However, amidst the turbulence, I found solace in an unexpected place – the world of plants.

With a stroke of luck, I secured a job just in time, averting the impending crisis. But the road to residency in New Zealand was far from smooth; a two-year delay lay ahead, testing my patience and resolve. In those moments of uncertainty and despair, it was the nurturing presence of my growing collection of house plants that kept me grounded and focused.

As I immersed myself in caring for my botanical companions, I found a sense of purpose and tranquillity. Each plant became a beacon of hope, a reminder that amidst life's challenges, there is beauty and growth waiting to be nurtured.

More than just decorative accents in my home, these plants became pillars of support for my mental health. Their presence brought a sense of calm and serenity, providing a welcome distraction from the chaos swirling outside. Through the simple act of tending to their needs, I found moments of mindfulness and clarity, allowing me to navigate the challenges with renewed strength and resilience.
